BALANCED WATER ALL SEASON
LOW CHLORINE
A low chlorine reading means your pool may not have enough sanitiser to control bacteria, organic contamination and algae. Test the water, correct the pH and restore the chlorine level before swimming.
BEST PRODUCTS TO FIX LOW CHLORINE
Restore the chlorine level first, then choose a suitable product for ongoing maintenance.
HOW TO RESTORE LOW CHLORINE
Follow these steps to identify why the chlorine has dropped and bring the water safely back under control.
-
Test the water
Measure the free chlorine and pH before adding any treatment.
-
CHECK THE PH
Make sure the pH is within the recommended range shown on your test kit. Incorrect pH can affect how effectively chlorine works.
-
REMOVE DEBRIS
Empty the skimmer basket and remove leaves, dirt and other organic material that can consume chlorine.
-
ADD THE CORRECT TREATMENT
Use Shock Granules for a rapid chlorine increase or Stabilised Chlorine Granules for a smaller adjustment. Follow the product label carefully.
-
RUN THE FILTRATION
Keep the pump running to circulate the treatment evenly throughout the pool.
-
RETEST BEFORE SWIMMING
Retest the chlorine and pH after the circulation period stated on the product label. Do not swim until the levels are within the recommended range.
Never mix chlorine with pH products or other pool chemicals. Add each product separately and follow all label instructions.
Treatment timeline
HOW LONG DOES LOW CHLORINE TAKE TO CORRECT?
The recovery time depends on the starting chlorine level, pool volume, water condition and the product being used.
-
After treatment
CHLORINE BEGINS TO CIRCULATE
Run the pump so the product can disperse throughout the pool water.
-
After the stated circulation time
RETEST THE WATER
Check the free chlorine and pH before adding another dose or allowing anyone to swim.
-
Over the next 24 hours
MONITOR THE LEVEL
If chlorine drops again quickly, check for heavy use, debris.
CONSISTENT CHLORINE CONTROL
KEEP CHLORINE FROM DROPPING AGAIN
Regular testing and suitable maintenance dosing help prevent sudden chlorine loss and recurring water problems.
- Test the Water Regularly Check chlorine and pH before swimming and more frequently during warm weather or heavy use. 2–3× WEEKLY
- Remove Organic Debris Clear leaves, insects and dirt before they consume available chlorine. DAILY
- Maintain Daily Chlorination Use Stabilised Chlorine Granules or Multifunctional Tablets according to the product label. DAILY
- Check After Heavy Use Retest after parties, warm weather or periods of increased bathing. AFTER HEAVY USE
- Maintain Circulation Keep the pump, baskets and filter working correctly. DAILY

Frequently Asked Questions
Low chlorine can be caused by sunlight, warm weather, heavy pool use, organic debris, insufficient dosing, algae or poor water circulation.
Do not swim until the chlorine and pH readings are within the safe range shown on your test kit and product instructions.
Shock Granules are designed for rapid correction. Chlorine tablets are slow-release products intended mainly for ongoing maintenance.
The pool may have a high chlorine demand caused by sunlight, contamination, algae, debris or heavy use. Check the filtration and water balance as well as the chlorine level.
Retest after the circulation time stated on the product label. Do not repeatedly add chlorine without testing the water.
